About the Original Artwork
The original watercolour is one of eight fish illustrations for a bespoke textile print commissioned by The Fishmongers’ Company.
The species were carefully selected to celebrate their important and longstanding place in the history of British fishing trade.
The dark spot on the side of the John-Dory is said to be the thumbprint of St Peter, the patron saint for fishermen – to me, this is symbolic of The Fishmongers’ Company as a longstanding supporter and patron of the UK fishing industry.
Illustrated in 2023.
