About the original artwork
The original watercolour illustration is part of a series of eight fishes which I painted to create a bespoke textile print pattern for the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers in London.
The species were carefully selected to be representative of the UK fish trade and the long history of the Fishmongers’ Company.
The dark spot on the side of the John-Dory is said to be the thumbprint of St Peter, the patron saint for fishermen – to me, this is symbolic of Fishmongers’ Company as a longstanding supporter and patron of the UK fishing industry.
Illustrated in 2023.
