About the original artwork
The original watercolour illustration is part of a series of eight fishes which I painted to create a bespoke textile print pattern for the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers in London.
The species were carefully selected to be representative of the UK fish trade and the long history of the Fishmongers’ Company.
I selected the plaice to celebrate its important and longstanding place in the history of British fishing trade.
I wanted to draw attention to sustainability issues of overfishing, as plaice is considered a more sustainable alternative to other flatfish such as lemon sole.
Illustrated in 2023.
